Saudi Arabia has passed a law criminalizing domestic abuse. Prior to this law, domestic abuse was not treated as a crime and it was subject to the individual interpretation of Sharia Law.

This new law criminalizing domestic abuse, also covers domestic abuse for domestic workers, who are often victims of abuse by their employers.
Despite this positive step towards criminalizing domestic abuse, accroding to a report by the HRW, the KSA needs to clarify the enforcement mechanisms for the effectiveness of this new law.
